IA 340. Data Mining, Modeling And Knowledge Discovery:

Data mining is the nontrivial extraction of previously unknown and potential useful information from (large) data sets, to help explain current behaviors and anticipate future outcomes.Students will apply data mining, and knowledge discovery methods to data sets from business, industry and government.The course is team oriented, project based and grounded in the relevant legal and ethical context.

Learning Objectives:

Students will develop the knowledge and skills to:

  1. describe different structures for data gathering and storage
  2. use standard technologies for data selection and preparation
  3. use standard data mining, modeling and knowledge discovery tools
  4. describe and use standards methods for data testing and validation
  5. present research results in standard IC and CI written and oral formats
