Who: Grade 6-12 Earth Science
in-service and pre-service teachers in counties/cities near the Shenandoah
National Park.
What: An exciting 2 week summer institute
combining field work using a curriculum guide for Shenandoah National Park
and instruction in the use of Geographic Information Systems in classroom
settings. The project includes school-year follow-up sessions (2
per semester) and support for participants. Participants will also
bring their classes to the Park for at least one field trip during the
school year.
Where: The College of Integrated Science
and Technology Campus at JMU and Shenandoah National Park (in and near
Harrisonburg, VA)
When: 17-28 June 2002
Participating teachers will receive a daily stipend.
The Great Outdoors Digital Indoors project is
funded by the federal Eisenhower Professional Development Program administered
by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia. The project
is funded with approximately $50,000 in federal funds and $24,000 in non-federal
funds.
