The month of June is a transition time for leadership in the ISAT Department.  In April the entire faculty and staff met to celebrate years of leadership.  The four people in the picture represent 18 years of ISAT history.  Dr. Dick Roberds (far right) was the first director of the ISAT program, beginning in 1992.  When he retired in 2001, Dr. Ron Kander (far left) became the Department Head and led through the transition to four programs instead of one.  In December 2007, he was named Director of JMU’s new School of Engineering.  At that time, Dr. Polly Cushman (second from right) was named Interim Department Head to guide the academic unit through the next 2 ½ years.  Through all these 18 years, Ms. Gretta Evick (second from left) has been the Administrative Assistant for the department, serving as the face of the department to faculty, students and visitors, and keeping all three leaders on the ball.  In June both Ms. Evick and Dr. Cushman are retiring.  Dr. Eric Maslen, the new Department Head, has been working during June to take over the leadership role for the next phase in the ISAT Department.  Ms. Cindi Wilson will become the department Administrative Assistant.  The ISAT Department office will look very different in the fall.
