JMU Students Attend Jane Goodall’s North American Summit
Justin White (Geographic Science major) and Kaeley Prior (Anthropology major) attended Dr. Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots North American Summit over the October 9th weekend. Roots and Shoots is an international organization created by Goodall in 1991 to help young people get involved in the environment and sustainable development. Kaeley and Justin created JMU’s chapter of Roots and Shoots in 2010; this summit allowed them to collaborate with other group leaders from around the continent. The conference consisted of four workshops with an array of topics to help brainstorm ideas and create program momentum. Attendees gained access to Dr. Goodall through a panel discussion. Dr. Goodall capped the event with a tour through her 50 year career.
JMU Roots and Shoots was created to allow diverse JMU students to join in service to local and international projects. Roots and Shoots connects hundreds of thousands of members in over 120 countries who are active in their communities and working for a more sustainable and peaceful future. For more information on the JMU Roots and Shoots organization, please email Justin or Kaeley at whitejh@dukes.jmu.edu or pryorkx@dukes.jmu.edu.
