Western Albemarle High School (Crozet, VA) - Instructor, Mr. Paul Rittenhouse

PHOTO: Students recording data

Western Albemarle’s Geospatial Semester class is unique in that it has students taking it for one year and for two years. The second year students are currently working with a Trimble Pathfinder ProXH GPS unit that is capable of achieving accuracy of less than 1 foot. They are preparing to map out and update the historical records of an old cemetery for a nearby county church. In preparation for their work, they practice their data gathering techniques and the differential correction [post processing] of the data in order to improve its accuracy. Later this winter both the first and second year students will work together to analyze data collected from GPS units outfitted on the school division’s bus fleet.
