Program Goals & Objectives
The goals and objectives of the ISAT Program are articulated by the following Program Educational Objectives, and operationalized in more specific terms by the Program Outcomes.
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The ISAT Program is an integrated and applied science program that prepares students to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners able to develop multi-disciplinary solutions to scientific and technological problems with a sensitivity to social, ethical, and political contexts. To verify that these expectations are being met, graduates of the ISAT B.S. Program must demonstrate that they can:
- Apply integrated scientific, technological, and mathematical concepts;
- Use sound experimental methodology and computers as problem solving tools;
- Identify, formulate, analyze, and solve technological problems within their political, social, and economic contexts;
- Apply the principles of professional ethical conduct, and the requirements for the acquisition and use of information and data;
- Communicate effectively on social, scientific, and technical matters and work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams; and
- Develop self-directed, lifelong learning skills.
Program Outcomes
The following is a statement of what ISAT students do and how they approach problem-solving in real-world contexts. Each of the following goals A-J below is further specified by subsets of objectives that can be downloaded here.
- ISAT graduates apply and integrate concepts in mathematics, physical science, biological science, earth science, and technology.
- ISAT graduates apply sound experimental methodology.
- ISAT graduates are familiar with the professional requirements for the acquisition and use of information and data.
