Welcome From the Department Head

Our students and faculty study the application of a broad range of sciences and technologies to problems of current societal importance.  We focus not only on the technical issues but also on how to ensure that these solutions will be embraced by society.  Our programs emphasize hands-on learning and provide an environment that encourages and rewards innovation.  Our goal is to stimulate an effective partnership between our students and faculty in creating and communicating solutions to a diverse portfolio of societal challenges.

I invite you to look through our web sites to get a sense of the range and flavor of the department, and I encourage you to contact me or any of the department's many faculty and staff to answer your questions.

Sincerely,
Eric Maslen
